How much do you have?
Are we use to failing? Most of us know what it would take to get us over that hump to the next level, the thing you would tell you to do, if you were your boss. If you don’t know, maybe ask an honest friend/co-worker/superior/mentor, then listen (without being offended) and ask yourself if the information is true.
If we do know and we don’t do that thing…we have failed. Everyday we don’t try, we have failed. So maybe we’re not afraid of failing. That daily failure doesn’t feel like the failure we expect. It’s more of a restlessness, than a loss. A festering frustration.
A lot of lessons for me are coming from our daughter. Do you see her face in the photo? What you don’t see is the mud on her pants and shoes. And you’re not able to feel that it was cold that day. The mud made it harder to push, but that wasn’t stopping her, she didn’t even think to consider it an obstacle. She has a goal, she wants to walk. She literally was squealing in delight. And when we stopped her fun to go home, she voiced her opinion in a loud tearless cry. How vocal am I when I’m interrupted while working on a goal? How easily do I give into distraction?
She had the pushing the toy to walk down. Direction was an entirely different thing. We followed closely behind to make sure she didn’t go into a ditch or rolling down the hill. Ms. Independent preferred for us to just take pictures, stay out of her way, and keep our paws off her toy.
The lesson – maybe we don’t always need to know where our idea is going to go or end up. Our business is the doing, God will set the course and He’s good at keeping us out of ditches, but if we end up in one, He can get us out, clean us up, heal our pain, and reset us.
Haris was not self conscious, she didn’t care who was watching or not, and was not looking for anyone’s approval. She was focused. We were watching and she inspired me. Only you can do what you’re called to do, your journey is unique and unlike anyone else’s.
We went home, had dinner, a nice bath, and the next morning guess who was ready to go again…and she’s improved. I have no doubt she’ll reach her goal soon. She’s working at it…consistently and with commitment everyday.
