Big Things in the Dark & Little Big Stuff

We went to Red Rock Canyon a couple of weeks ago, and had an amazing time!  It was absolutely beautifully breathtaking.  We hiked and played on the Red Rock, and breathed in the beauty and fresh air.  And my good friend and actress, Hayley, gave me a shoe rack yesterday.  That’s not a typo, that was the next sentence.

Along the CA 14 you’ll see the outline of purple mountains majesty, literally, they look purple during sunset, and then the sun disappears, and the mountains are gone.  It’s so dark, I could literally be standing 100 feet from a mountain, and not see it.

And I started thinking…how often is something beautiful, large, magnificent, and significant right in our lives, inside us, or that we’re hoping and praying for, that we can’t see at the moment, because it’s dark.

How long will the night last?  Keep faith.

So, the shoe rack…we (Derrick and I) were talking about some items we needed to buy for the house, and I remembered, oh yeah we need to get a shoe rack.  Sounds simple, we just hadn’t made it to the store yet.

So off to Hayley’s new apartment I go for some artistic enrichment and she says, “Hey, I need to get rid of some stuff, do you need a shoe rack?”

Now, we could have bought a shoe rack, sure, and praise God for the providence.  But in that small moment right there, of something as simple as a shoe rack, I knew God was letting me know, He cares about even the little things.

So, when I have a moment in prayer, and I’m wondering why I’m not seeing some mountains in my  life or career that I’m hoping for, I’m reminded that He most certainly cares.  If He cares enough to bless me with a shoe rack, how much more does He care about the people and things that are important to me?

And I know mountains are normally the things we say, move this mountain, get over this mountain, how many times are you going to go around that mountain, and then I’m reminded Jesus and Moses went up a mountain.

“I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope He has given to those he called – His holy people who are His rich and glorious inheritance.” – Ephesians 1:18

“The light shines in the dearness, and the darkness has not overcome it.” – John 1:5

“But the very hairs of your head are all numbered.  Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” – Luke 12:7

“Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.” – Psalm 37:4

“For His anger lasts only a moment, but His favor lasts a lifetime!  Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.” – Psalm 30:5
