Blue Horse Lesson
When I come home to Kentucky, I leave with a lesson(s) learned. Being immersed in a place with a different pace and culture of people gives me new perspectives. This year’s lesson was all about gratitude, and no I’m not being Thanksgiving cliché lol! Gratitude for the good & bad times, as well as being grateful is an active way of life.
I spent quality time with my immediate family, met up with my besties and line sisters, bowled with my extended family, and ran/walked my first 5k with my best friend.
Being grateful is more than a mindset. Gratefulness is in response to what I’m thankful for.
I saw a few quotes while running, the first one…
“The voice in your head that says you can’t do this, is a liar.”
So I kept running without expecting a lesson/teaching…
“Respect your training, honor your commitment, and celebrate your victory.”
And the next sign…
“To give anything less than your best, is to sacrifice the gift.”
– Steve Prefontaine
How does that tie into being grateful? In every area of my life, the decisions I make, if in response to gratefulness should include the principles of respect, honor, and commitment. I’m thankful for my family, when spending time with my family, I should do my best to not allow distractions, otherwise I am sacrificing the gift of quality time.
This week has been enlightening. I’ve learned most of us are not where we want to be, and yet, there is opportunity for contentment, peace, and rest with and within God. That there are circumstances that could be different, but isn’t there always a coulda, shoulda, and woulda? Might as well endure the pain of patience (thank you Rainer Maria Rilke, “Letters to a Young Poet”).
So I sat back and absorbed all the love, new experiences, good food, hugs, growth of my nieces and nephews, and found an ease. That my life is beautiful, that I am highly favored and extremely blessed, and any gaps in what I want to achieve professionally or personally, I accept. I’m not struggling to reject/deny it. I’m grateful for the opportunity to grow.
Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Love deeply and live free!
